This toilet has been running for weeks and I can't take it anymore
I feel like I'm losing my mind listening to this toilet run constantly. It started a few weeks ago, just a subtle hiss at first that I could ignore, but now it's become this loud, continuous sound that I can hear from the living room and it's driving me absolutely crazy. I've tried jiggling the handle, adjusting the chain, and even replaced the flapper myself after watching a tutorial, but nothing has made any difference at all. I'm pretty sure at this point that the problem is more complicated than just a simple flapper issue, maybe something with the fill valve or the flush mechanism itself. The water bill has also been creeping up higher than usual, which I'm guessing is because of all this water constantly running and wasting money. I hate the thought of calling a plumber for something that seems like it should be a simple fix, but clearly I've reached the limit of my DIY abilities and I need someone who actually knows what they're doing to figure this out. I'm also a little worried that if I keep ignoring it, the problem could get worse and eventually cause damage to the bathroom floor or the ceiling below. I've been looking for someone who offers Belmont plumbing repairs done right, because I want a professional who will actually diagnose the root cause instead of just slapping a band-aid on it and leaving me with the same problem a month later. Has anyone else dealt with a toilet that just wouldn't stop running no matter what you tried? What ended up being the actual problem and how much did it cost to get sorted out? I'd really appreciate some insight before I make that call.
