The good news is that this is a solvable maths problem, not a matter of taste. You only need two numbers: how much space the phone actually gives you, and how fast your own habits eat it.

The number on the box is not the number on your phone


Buy a 128 GB phone and the storage screen will show roughly 105 to 112 GB free before you install anything. Nothing is faulty. Two things are happening at once.

First, the manufacturer counts a gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 bytes, while your phone's operating system counts it as 1,073,741,824 bytes. Same chip, different ruler. That alone turns 128 GB into about 119 GB.

Second, the operating system and the pre-installed apps take a real bite, usually 12 to 20 GB depending on the model and how heavy the software skin is. Subtract that from 119 and you land somewhere near 100 GB of genuinely usable space.
