how to remove screen from aluminum door
To remove the cover from a steel door is not as difficult as you may think. You can do it, with the right tools and some patience. Here’s what you’ll need to do to screen it yourself.
Gather necessary tools and materials
Some tips before you get started: At the ready. Here’s a list of what you will need:
-
Screwdriver
-
Utility knife
-
Replacement screen
-
Drill (optional)
-
Safety glasses
With all these things in place, you can now start taking screen from your aluminum door.
Take off the door handle and hardware
First, you’ll want to remove the door handle and any other hardware on the door. Unscrew the screws that attach the handle and, if there's any other hardware, it to the door. When you have taken all the screws off, gently pull out the door handle and put it to one side. just be sure not to drop any of the screws as you will need those to re-attach the door handle later.
Cutting the screen away from the door frame
Now that you’ve removed the door handle and hardware, it’s time to remove the screen from around the door frame. Begin by using the utility knife to cut around the edges of the screen that is secured to the frame. Do take your time while moving, and don't apply too much pressure to either the screen or frame. When you have cut around the entire screen, you should be able to lift it carefully out of the frame. If the screen is secured with screws, you’ll likely have to use the drill to unscrew it before pulling out the screen.
Cleaning and repairing the screen
Now that you have the screen out of the door frame, this is where you clean and fix it. Begin by spraying the screen with water to remove any dirt and debris. A mild soap or detergent may also be used if the screen is extremely dirty. When the screen is clean, inspect for holes or tears to repair. If you locate them, you can repair them with a scrap of replacement screen material and some glue. Let the glue dry completely before proceeding to the next step.
Reassembling the screen to aluminum door
Now that the screen is clean and fixed, it’s time to reattach it into the door frame. Begin with the edges of the screen flush with the frame and snap it in place. If screws were used to fix the screen, use a drill with screws to put them back in. When the screen has been secured to the frame, reattach your door handle and any other hardware that was removed earlier. Make certain that everything is secure when you check the door to ensure your screen has been installed correctly.
So, all in all, you can change its screen with ease as long as you follow these steps and the necessary tools. Remember, take your time and be patient; soon enough you’ll have a pristine new screen in place. Thanks for your interest in Superhouse products and supply.
